Youths in Kogi State has called on the Federal government to intervene in the ongoing shutdown of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja that has lingered for more than seven (7) weeks.
The Kogi State Chairman, Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, Comr. Alfa Ebune made this known in a press release made available to AFRICA SECURITY INVESTIGATION on Saturday, 12 September 2020.
As contained in the release, ‘I am strongly compelled to issue this press release on behalf of the good people of Kogi State particularly those of us that live in Lokoja metropolis over the continuous shut down of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja for the past seven weeks without any effort from the Federal government or the host state government for its re-opening’.
The Youth leader who disclosed that the hospital is one of the most equipped in the state also gave a glimpse of what transpired, stating that the ordinary Kogites have been affected badly by the sudden and prolonged closure.
‘The hospital is the biggest and most equipped in the state but for close to two months, the staff there have withdrawn their services due to the invasion of its premises by some hoodlums who vandalized their equipment’.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the present shut down of the centre, he alleged that despite the havoc done by the perpetrators, the police have not been able to make a single arrest.
‘This is rather unfortunate for Kogites and nobody is talking about it’, he added.
Ebune stressed that the closure of the Medical Centre shouldn’t have happened at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
He however appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Health to intervene on behalf of the common man in Kogi State.
