The Director-General, Global Centre for Human Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development, GLOCHEED, Mrs. Rose Gyar has congratulated Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala over her emergence as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The Director-General, Mrs. Rose Gyar today 17 Feb. 2021 congratulated Igozi on behalf of the Centre, following the announcement of the World Trade organization revealing Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s appointment via its official tweeter handle @WTO.org.
According to the tweet, “members made history when the General Council agreed by consensus to select Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria as the organization’s seventh Director-General.”
It is worthy of note that upon resumption on 1 March, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala will become the first woman and the first African to be chosen as Director-General. Her term, renewable, will expire on 31 August 2025.
Rose, in her words, “This is a very significant moment for the WTO and a very great opportunity for the African Continent when the Africa Continental Free Trade Area AFCFTA) is taken off. On behalf of the Global Centre for Human Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development, GLOCHEED, I extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as the WTO’s next Director-General.”
Stating further, Rose charged Okonjo-Iweala to have her priority on working with members to quickly address the economic and health consequences brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
