Ahead of the forthcoming state election of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Kogi Chapter, the state government has maintained a stand not to interfere in the internal politics of the youth organization in the state.
According to Apeh Mordecai,
Media aide to the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Kogi State, in a press release today, disclosed that the Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Idris Musa (Danjuma Oando) stated this following stakeholders meeting with leaders of the council at his Lokoja office, yesterday 25th May 2021.
Reacting to raised issues of the group bordering allegations across some quarters that the state government is fielding/imposing a particular candidate, Hon. Idris said such purported allegation could only be the handiwork of enemies of the state aimed at destabilizing the unity of the council.
He charged leaders and members of the youth body to maintain calmness, disregard such rumours, describing them as “lies and baseless”.
He urged the council leaders to remain focus on the youth course and avoid all forms of distraction at this critical point of electing their new set of leaders, stressing that all mercenaries are already in motion by the supervising ministry and relevant bodies to deliver free, fair and transparent state elections following the tenets of the organization.
He expressed confidence that guidelines for the electioneering processes as stipulated in the group’s constitution shall be made public during the next stakeholders meeting as unanimously resolved at the meeting.
Hon. Jibrin, Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Student Affairs, in his remarks, further reassured council stakeholders of a level plain ground ahead of the state elections.
