The President, Nigeria Youth Congress, Blessing Akinlosotu in his welcome address, said, the annual event didn’t only give the youths opportunity to discuss, critique, and evaluate the good, the bad, and the ugly situations that Nigerians especially the youths found themselves in but also enable the youths as a people to have a common vision and mission which is the successful implementation of the development of the Nigeria project.
He stated that the theme for the year’s lecture was critically selected because it is aimed at ex-raying the years and today to identify the major hurdles and envisioned same resolved a better understanding of the concept.
Mr. Blessing Akinlosotu further stated that series of dialogues and sensitizations are needed in order to review or mend the present state democracy.
“On this note, there is a need to take the steps needed for the reform of our dear Nigeria. The lack in mutual ineligibility informed by the ethnic sensibilities of our nation has thrown us into insecurity”, he added.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Yakubu Shandam, the Chairman Governing Board of Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC, said there is a need for the inclusion of youths in government giving references to those who support the inclusion of youth in the system such as Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu of Lagos, etc.
Stressing further, he said the importance of the youths has grieved on the area where youths have made themselves to be like an industry where they can be hired as bad eggs of the country and thereafter fire them after using them to satisfy their selfish desires. He advised youths to stay away from unnecessary protests stating that protests are never a solution, as he acknowledged the honorable minister of state for education for his supports to the Nigerian youths.
The Hon. Minister of State for Education, Hon. chukwuemeka Nwajiuba while delivering a lecture on Democracy so far, elucidated that the theme is not only current but also a provoking topic. The minister who outlined a lot of the present administration successes stated that Nigerians are blessed to have President Muhammadu Buhari because he is a man of character, incorruptible, competent, doggedness, and capability as he advised Nigerians to have a developmental mindset.
However, he grieved about how Nigerians import expensive things without producing anything and contributing to National growth.
“Social media groups should transform hate speech to positive energy and be productive”, he added.
Hon. James Faleke who represented the National Leader of the All Progress Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu as the Chairman of the occasion adopted the issues discussed by the Hon minister.
According to him, “I can’t wait to see the time other states would emulate Lagos State where somebody from North can be a Councillor or Chairman in Anambra and Vice Versa”.
