Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Social-Cultural Association organized a World press conference on peace and security and investiture of brand ambassador with its theme: “National Cohesion As Panacea for Peaceful Coexistence Between Farmers/ Herdsmen in Nigeria”
The National President, Dr. Abdullahi Bello Bodejo speaking through the National Secretary Eng. Saleh Alhassan made it known at the conference that anti-grazing laws and banning of open grazing is a satanic agenda to destroy their means of livelihood by desperate politicians acting on faulty and safe serving security reports.
He added that Nigeria’s mode of agriculture is still primitive all over the country and is not consistent with global best practices so why single out the pastoralists who have been suffering from cumulative years of neglect in terms of development from both federal and state governments?
“Why do you want to ban open grazing when you have not provided adequate alternative means of grazing for the herdsmen?”, he asked.
Speaking further, he urged the government to save their only means of livelihood and avoid the law passing movement, ” the movement will not only destroy livestock production but will also send millions into poverty of which the current government is trying to eradicate poverty in all forms. The laws will undermine the relative peace and stability currently enjoyed in our local communities and will lead to massive cross birder migration that will create further security challenges”, he said.
Bodejo commends the courageous efforts of the government despite all odds.
“Thank you for listening to our consistent call to restore the existing grazing reserves and routes and create new ones as it is the only sustainable solution to the farmers-herders conflicts in the country”.
The president enjoys Fulani people to be law-abiding as efforts are put in place to protect their interests.
Speaking also, HRH Queen Mother Amina Temitope Ajayi who was honoured as Miyetti Allah Brand Ambassador, expressed gratitude for the position bestowed on her and promised to further contribute to the greater success of the group.
“I have a robust action plan to establish a SV-NED/Miyetti Allah train the trainer’s cattle ranch academy of which the trainers will be traveling to California USA for the training next year. The 2nd aspect of my action plan is to build one million low-cost houses for one million Fulani herdsmen attached to their farm settlement”, Amina disclosed.
The guest speaker Captain (rtd) Ahmed Chiroma, Deputy Secretary Presidential Think -Tank on Defense and Security added that in as much farmers are important in our society, so are the herdsmen. Both can’t do without the other, and we as a community need them both.
“Sadly, herders-farmers are always in crises in our country today.
The conflict between herders and farmers brings about the destruction of lives and properties and decreases production” he said.
Chiroma urged cohesion between herders and farmers in Nigeria for growth and development, peace and unity, progress, and realization of national security objectives.
