Devongnosis Education trains Nigerian Police on Forensic Science, company chairman urges beneficiaries to transfer knowledge

By Emmanuel Daudu, Abuja

The Chairman, Devongnosis Education Limited, Brig. Gen. D B Shaljaba (rtd, DSS, FTAM-GH, PDGM, MASSA, …) has called on the Nigerian Police personnel who benefitted from the institute’s forensic training to be benevolent enough to transfer the knowledge acquired from the free training on others in their various Police Stations, particularly their departments.

Brig. Gen. Shaljaba made the statement on Friday at the closing ceremony of the one-week full-fledged training held in Abuja.

According to him, he stated that forensic scientists play a pivotal role in the criminal justice systems, providing crucial information about the evidence to the tier of fact, because the work they do both at the crime scene and in the laboratory often must be used in the court.
“It is especially important that the training and education of forensic scientists provide a solid scientific background and a broad base in criminalistics.

“Interest in forensic science has increased dramatically in the past 10 years. Forensic Science is that piece without which the puzzle of a criminal investigation is incomplete. Without the application of forensic science, criminals can never be convicted unless an eyewitness is present. While detectives and law enforcement agencies are involved in the collection of evidence, be it physical or digital, it is forensic science that deals with the analysis of those evidence in order to establish facts admissible in the court of law. Thus, in a world devoid of forensic science, murderers, thieves, drug traffickers, and rapists would be roaming scot-free”, he added.

Speaking further, he noted that the importance of forensic science in our modern world can’t be overemphasized as he urged beneficiaries to always be careful with pieces of evidence while undertaking an investigative task.

Also speaking at the event, Rosemary Oojah Okoh, Training Coordinator, Devongnosis Education Limited, disclosed that the training was put together as requested by their partner, the US Embassy, Abuja, noting that the global network of experienced professionals and consultants assembled with the core objective of providing world-class Knowledge-based services to public and private sector institutions within and outside the Africa Continent has massively done well in inculcating the needed knowledge of forensic science on the Nigerian Police personnel.
