The Headquarters 8 Division Nigerian Army Training School graduated 53 students of Basic Battle course one 2022 at the Division Training School Giginya barracks Sokoto on 22 April 2022.

The General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army/ Commander Joint Task Force Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI Major General Uwem Bassey who was the Special Guest of Honour congratulated the students and urges them to utilise the knowledge gained during the conduct of every military operations when deploy. He stated that the objective of the course was to develop individuals and teams to be physically robust and mentally alert to enhance the battle skills required of a soldiers. He added, that the rigorous training undergone was to enable participants to withstand extreme weather, hunger, fatigue among others so as to confront various security challenges.

Major General Bassey said now that the country is battling with terrorism and other security challenges training and retraining of personnel has become necessary to deal with security situation professionally. He therefore urged participants to remain focused and discipline when deployed for any military operations. The training is a continuous one to make sure personnel becomes acquainted with the basic battle procedure of internal security operations, he stated.

He extends his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya for providing funds for the construction of the school and commencement of training. He said with this effort he is committed to ensure troops receive quality training to actualize the vision of the Chief of Army Staff.

General Bassey used the opportunity to caution personnel to remain apolitical and not to allow themselves to be drag into criminal activities that will tarnish their image and Nigerian Army.

While presenting the highlights of the course, the Division Training Officer Brigadier General Rasheed Omolori said the graduating students went through 8 weeks rigorous training on minor tactics, weapon handling, battle drill, navigation techniques, live firing exercises, awareness on Improvised Explosives Device, counter insurgency operations, raid operations and Signal communication. He also added that participants undergone series of assessments for grading. He said with the quality of training received he is optimistic that the participants can confront and combat any security threats during any military operations. He therefore, urged the participants to always get in touch with the school when in doubt for clarification.

Highlight of the graduating ceremony was the competition among participants on stripping and assembling of AK 47 rifles blindfolded, presentation of certificates to participants and presentation of award to participants who distinguish themselves during the course.
