The President of Africa’s newest and 55th country known as the State of Birland, HRM. King Dr. Emir Haiyawi, has appointed a business tycoon and an indigene of an indigene of Oporoma Community in Southern Ijaw LGA,
Bayelsa State of Nigeria, Prof. Barango Opukumo Matthew Wenke, Jnr., as the country’s Hon. Minister of Trade and Investment.
Announcing the appointment at Bir Tawil, the Prime Minister of Birland, Prof. Eden Soriano Trinidad, said it was based on merit, stressing that the appointee has a record of consistent years of excellence in handling multinational trade and investment matters.
She explained that President Emir Haiyawi in approving the top appointment wants to use it in establishing a good working relationship with the government of Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa State as well as in encouraging the Governor who has done well in office, despite environmental challenges.
Prior to his appointment, Prof. Barango was the founder and president of EPIC Refinery Group and president of Private Refinery Owners in Africa. He is married and blessed with children.
The letter of appointment co-signed by the President and Prime Minister of Birland, indicate that the appointment takes effect from 1st May, 2022.
Records show that Prof. Barango is the second Nigerian development catalyst and successful professional to be appointed to serve in the cabinet by the Government of Birland, the first being a prominent Ogoni indigene from Rivers State, Prof. Barika Dominic Saro-Laka, JP, who is the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Birland Representative to the United Nations.
